Confronting Fear

  • Post author:

Lately I’ve been trying some things in my business that I’ve not done before. Testing out some new ideas to see if they are worth making a regular part of my strategy.

As with all new things, there are some aspects that work and some that don’t. The only way to find out what works for you and what doesn’t is to try them all.

It’s a worthy exercise but obviously it comes with some elements of discomfort. As I test these new methods and techniques, I’m finding that I’m having to deal with and overcome some serious fear and apprehension.

We all know the theory is to confront and go through the fear and come out the other side a changed person that is no longer afraid of whatever it was that had previously reduced us to a nervous wreck, but what if you do it and the fear doesn’t go away?

What it you face your fear, confront it head on and do the thing but the fear and uneasiness remains the same each time you have to do it?

What if it doesn’t get easier and you still experience the same resistance that you had prior to confronting your fear?

Does that mean we have to continue to do it and feel frozen with dread every time that particular thing needs doing?

Or…………

Does it mean it’s not right for us and we need to find another way to accomplish this task? One we feel more comfortable with?

If you’ve ever read any of my blogs then you’ll know I’m a huge advocate for finding ways to make things work for you. Doing things in a way that brings you joy and adds to your creativity.

If something doesn’t feel right to you after you’ve tried it, then there has to be a better way. A way that you can get behind and feel good about.

Don’t force something that isn’t working for you because you’ve been told there’s a certain way to do things and you must confront your fears and get out of your comfort zone.

Your business should be something that brings you happiness and supports you. Not something that makes you full of fear, stress and worry. If that was the goal we could’ve stayed in our 9-5 job!

As an entrepreneur there will always be new things to try and fears to face but another important skill is to be able to identify what will work for you in your business and what won’t. Anything that still makes you unhappy or uncomfortable after you’ve tried and tested it, needs to go and another way of achieving the same result needs to be found.

Confronting your fears not only helps you grow as a person, it also helps you to learn more about the type of business you want to run.

By incorporating the things you love into your business and your life you’re more likely to achieve great things.
