EXPOSED DAY 9

Worrying Doesn’t Stop The Bad Stuff From Happening

There was a time in my life when I used to worry about everything. I would run through scenarios in my head.

?What if I lose my job?

?What if I can’t pay my rent?

?What if I can’t find a parking space?

At the time, I convinced myself that I was being prepared in case the worst happened. What I didn’t consider was that by focusing on these things, I was giving them power to become my reality. And, although some of the things that used to keep me up at night were indeed things most people worry about at some point. Others were silly, irrelevant things that weren’t even worth thinking about, and definitely weren’t worth worrying about. At all.

Eventually, I realised this way of thinking was causing me a huge amount of unnecessary stress and anxiety. So, I decided I wasn’t going to worry about things anymore. It wasn’t doing me or my state of mind any good and I was missing out on my life while I was thinking and worrying about things unnecessarily.

I knew there had to be a better way to use my energy and my thoughts. A new, positive mindset would help me to achieve more and lead a fulfilling life. I started journalling to put my worries down on paper, once I had written them down they seemed to lose their significance and I started to believe I could change my mindset. I started using affirmations to change my thoughts from negative to positive.

At first, I tried to notice when a worrying thought entered my mind. When it did, I allowed myself to think it and observe it. Then, I would purposefully change the thought to the opposite, most positive thought I could think of. So, for example, ‘what if I can’t my pay rent’ became ‘I always pay my rent and bills with ease’. Then, I would repeat this as often as I could, over and over until it was the first thing that popped into my head whenever I thought about rent or bills.

I followed this process with everything that had caused me to worry. It took some time but slowly I stopped having the negative, worrying thoughts and now it’s the positive thought that enters my mind. I left the negative ones in the past.

These days I don’t worry at all because I know that no matter what happens, good or bad, I’ll be able to figure something out. Worrying doesn’t stop the bad things from happening, but having a positive mindset and being open to seeing other possibilities, helps you to deal with whatever life throws at you.

EXPOSED DAY 10

Friday 10th September 2021

Why Are You Trying To Fit in?

Do you remember when you were at school? There were two well defined groups. One for the people that fit in and one for those that didn’t.

If you were one of those unlucky ones that didn’t fit in, then school was probably an experience that you didn’t enjoy. The other children were either unkind to you and you felt different and excluded or they didn’t even notice you at all.

That feeling of not fitting in usually makes people feel like they aren’t good enough or that there is something wrong with them and can follow a lot of people from school on to the workplace.

I tried for years to fit in to the corporate world. Trying so hard to be a good employee that was valued and appreciated, but frankly, it just wasn’t me. I wasn’t the same as my colleagues that seemed to enjoy the rat race. No amount of trying to fit in was going to help.

I experienced so much resistance for the three decades that I worked in a 9-5 job that one day I finally realised that I was feeling this way because I wasn’t meant to fit in there.

I was supposed to be me but I couldn’t be me when I worked for others. The very fact that I experienced so much resistance was like a huge neon sign signalling to me that I was in the wrong place.

It wasn’t me after all, there wasn’t anything wrong with me. I just hadn’t found the right place for me yet. All those years of unhappiness were trying to tell me needed to keep on looking for the place that did I fit in.

I needed to find my own place in the world, where I felt like myself. Accepted and at ease. Somewhere I could do my best work. No resistance, no judgement. Just peace, freedom and cooperation.

It turns out that place was in my own business. Being my own boss and making my own decisions about my own destiny.

Once I had made this discovery and taken action to make this my new reality, I found that I finally did fit in. I felt at home. No resistance, no awkwardness. Just room to be myself and create my own future.

When you stop trying to fit in, you’ll realise you were always ok. You just needed to find the place that you were meant to be.

EXPOSED DAY 11

Saturday 11th September 2021

Who Do You Want To Be?

A few years ago a started a practice that has revolutionised my life. On the first of the month, I get up in the morning and when I look into the mirror I ask myself this question:

‘Who do you want to be?’

It’s a valid question. As we make our way through life there are so many changes that take place, but how can we ensure those changes are ones that are helping us to continually evolve into better versions of oneself?

The only way is to keep asking and answering this question, and in turn to consistently keep setting and achieving new goals for ourselves.

By deciding what we want and who we want to become we set new standards for our personal growth. The next step is to take that vision of you and your future and put those ideas into action by asking these questions:

?How can you start to be that person now?
?What can you do to embody your vision today?
?What is the difference between who you are now and who you want to be?

By answering these questions you can start to create a plan of what you need to do to become the person you envisioned. When you begin to embody these key factors that is when you start to become that person.

?How different will your life be if you pay more attention to the person you want to become?
?What will happen if you don’t take this step?

Accountability is key if you’re going to stay committed. Tell someone what you’re doing. Ask them to help you reach your goals. You’re more likely to stay motivated if you have someone checking up on your progress.

EXPOSED DAY 12

Sunday 12th September 2021

Make It Work For You

The main reason I started my business was to give myself more freedom. Not just financial freedom, but time freedom, creative freedom and generally, freedom to design my life and business the way I choose to.

What this means is, I get to do things my way. The way I want to. From the products I create, the systems I use to the clients I work with. It’s all down to me.

Above all, this includes staying true to myself. I know I can achieve much more when I’m being my true self than if I were trying to be somebody else. But in today’s world this can be difficult, due to the fact that most modern online marketing strategies are designed with extroverts in mind.

So, it’s important to understand exactly how to make your business work for you as an introvert. It is entirely possible to create your business in a way that works for you. As a business owner it’s imperative that you make yourself heard and get sales efficiently to drive your business forward.

Try finding a method of communication that you’re comfortable with, so you can effectively communicate with your clients. You don’t have to be singing and dancing in TikTok videos to create a meaningful connection with your audience.

Being adaptable will help you to implement processes in your business that aren’t standard so you can put your own stamp on it and build a thriving business that works for you and not the other way around.

Whenever something doesn’t feel right to you, ask yourself these questions:

?What do you want?

?How do you want to achieve it?

Listen to your intuition. Do what feels right for you. It’s your business, do it your way and make it work for you.

EXPOSED DAY 13

Monday 13th September 2021

Your Past Does Not Define You

These days, I try to live my life by this quote from Tony Robbins – ‘Your past does not equal your future’.

The past is a place that no longer exists but some of us continue to live there even though there is nothing to be gained by holding on to it.

Why do we do this?

There are lots of reasons but the most common are, not wanting to deal with the present and fear of the future. Although the past can have a big impact on your future if you allow it to, it doesn’t have to be this way. Just because your past was a certain way and may have been a negative experience, you don’t have to perpetuate it.

At any point you can decide you want something different for yourself. You have the opportunity to choose again, every day. The past is a great teacher but not a good place to stay. Keep moving forward toward your goals. Let the lessons from your past be a reminder of how far you’ve come.

Don’t let your past define you. You’re not the same person you were then. What you’re doing at the moment is far more indicative of what your future holds than what you did five years ago.

It’s the small habits that you do everyday that will get results. Being consistent with a few foundational habits now, will lead to success in the future. Yes, you may have tried before and given up but you can try again. Let your desire to be better be your motivation.

Change happens in increments gradually over time, but with consistent effort you can create a transformation. Your past is your past and you can’t change that but you can change your future. At any point you can change the narrative. You can change your story whenever you want to and leave the past behind.

EXPOSED DAY 14

Tuesday 14th September 2021

Seek The Guidance Of A Mentor

Before I started working with a coach, I thought I could achieve my goals on my own. And while I probably could have, what I didn’t factor in was the time it would take me to get there without any guidance. I realised I would be nearing retirement age before I was able to achieve the transformation I was looking for. I needed expert help to speed up my progress. So I got myself a coach and the rest is history.

Think back to a time when someone inspired you. What was it about that person that inspired you? Was it the way they spoke or was it their message? Mentors have a way of giving us the needed push to accomplish what we thought was impossible.

You don’t need an in person relationship for someone to be considered a mentor. In fact, you could read about someone in history. Sometimes, you may find an account on social media that inpsires you. Then, you reach out to that person and let them know how their message helped you.

Mentors help people by giving them the push they need to get to a higher level. Sometimes, you simply don’t know what to do next. A mentor will show you some possibilities. While they shouldn’t decide for you, they can give you some much needed guidance.

If you are ready to move forward in your life, it is up to you to find the right coach. Once you do, you will have guidance that can help you attain your goals. The process could take you outside of your comfort zone. Often, that is how you break through barriers that are holding you back. When that happens, you will see the true value of a mentor.

Some coaches may seem out of reach because of how much they cost. Some people are lucky to receive free mentoring. But, if you don’t have that luxury, keep in mind what you are getting out of the deal. If you advance in your life or career quicker than your peers because you paid for a decent mentor, can you put a price on that? You will more than cover the cost of both salary and relationships that you gain from the arrangement.

EXPOSED DAY 15

Wednesday 15th September 2021

The Halfway Point

Today is Day 15 of the Expose Your Truth 30 Day Challenge. As we have reached the halfway point today, I would like to talk about what I’ve learned during the last two weeks.

When I first decided to take part in the challenge, I had no idea how I would be able to write a new post every day. But, as the days go by I am somehow able to put pen to paper and create something new for each day of the challenge.

The truth is, some people read them and a lot of people don’t but it doesn’t matter because each day I’m showing up and sharing my truth with you. I wanted to build consistent writing habits and get to know myself a little better in the process.

I’m being honest and I’m writing from a place of vulnerability to create a connection with others. When we share from our hearts we are able to convey the true essence of ourselves and our stories from a genuine and authentic place.

My hope is that someone will read one of my posts and learn something or maybe feel inspired to do something they’ve been scared to do.

When we try to live our lives in our truth, it shows up in our business too. I want people to know me and my story so they can get to know themselves better also. When we back ourselves and show that we aren’t afraid to share the real us, it’s something that people pick up on.

One of the stories I’ve shared in the last two weeks may be something that someone needed to hear. Maybe one of the posts I’ll write in the coming two weeks will have value for them and help them on the next steps of their journey.

Here are a few ways we can all be a little more honest with ourselves.

?Know who you are

?Stop trying to be someone else

?Don’t compromise your values

?Keep a journal

If you would like to connect and share your truth or talk in a one to one setting please fill in the form below:
